Tragic end to the weekend in the Hazeltons

A 16 year old teenage boy died on Sunday evening while attempting to swim approximately 100 feet to an island at Seeley Lake Provincial Park.

RCMP members from New Hazelton, as well as Conservation officers from the region were the first to attend to the call for assistance.

Those Calls for help to RCMP dispatch we're made by those at the park, who were alerted by two other boys. They had been with the boy and called out for assistance when the 16 year old did not surface from the water.

The incident took place in the late afternoon on Sunday at the park, which is located 8 kilometres west of New Hazelton.

All three teens were from the New Hazelton region, the victims services office out of Smithers is assisting those family and friends affected by Sunday's tragic events.
