Terrace receives funds for brownfield project

The Provincial Government was busy announcing funding for Brownfield redevelopment over the weekend and in the Northwest, Terrace will be the community receiving some cash to help revitalize some contaminated land in the region.

As part of the Government's  Brownfield renewal program, 13 communities shared in the 1.5 million dollars in funding, the Northwest funding going to the NSD Development Corporation, which is receiving up to $136,465 to help in the redevelopment of a former lumber company site.

The money will be put towards the restoration of the land to make it available to support large economic projects in the area.

Some background on the NSD plans for land in the Terrace region can be found below:

It's the second time that the program has provided for funding in the Terrace area, a previous project saw a former gas station in the city re-purposed into a green space by a local organization. You can review that project from this background piece (pages 12-13)

The program has been in existence since 2008 and since that time has provided for more than 5.4 million dollars in grants in 44 communities.

You can learn more about the Brownfield Renewal program from the government's website.
