Carrier Sekani host two day First Nations LNG Summit

Today is the first of two days of study on the issue of LNG development  organized by the Carrier Sekani Tribal Group, a summit that will bring all of the stakeholders together in Prince George to discuss and share information.

Taking place at the Prince George Civic Centre, the invitation only event will feature participation of First Nations, Provincial and Federal Government representatives and those looking to develop the Natural Gas industry in the region.

Among some of the themes of the two day event will be an overview of the Global nature of Liquid Natural Gas development, sustainable development and the impact on First Nations, Building partnerships with First nations and the Economic Opportunities that could be realized through those partnerships.

One major topic for the gathering will involve a review of a discussion paper on How First Nations can get a Fair, Just and Honourable Agreement and Share in the Benefits that will flow from the Proposed LNG Project Development in the province.

Background on that aspect of the summit can be found from this overview of the Discussion paper.

There will also be various panel discussions and break out groups, smaller working groups which will address specific topics of interest of LNG development.

Some of those on day one include a Natural Gas Extraction Panel, a Natural Gas Transportation Panel dealing with pipeline issues and an Export Panel. Day two will feature groups that will discuss Environmental impacts, Economic Action items and Social Impact items.

A full review of the Agenda and some background on the participants can be found in this guidebook to the LNG Summit.
