Avalanche risk advisories issued for Northwest Coast and Inland backcountry areas

The recent weather systems that crossed into the Northwest and the systems to come this week have given the Canadian Avalanche Centre cause to issue a Moderate Risk warning for the Northwest Coastal regions and Inland regions.

The bulletins advise that the newly arrived snow in alpine areas of the back country will require several days to settle and stabilize and that those that take to the back country should be aware of the potential for large, deep avalanches due to the presence of buried weak layers in mountainous areas.

The weather forecast for the Coastal and Inland regions of the Northwest over the next three days calls for warming temperatures and heavy rainfall through to Wednesday. (Prince Rupert forecast, Terrace forecast)

Avalanche control measures from CN between Terrace and Prince Rupert have resulted in Drive BC issuing a travel delay advisory for Highway 16 through until 1 PM on Monday
