Council hears of more concerns over Pinnacle Pellet Plant

Prince Rupert City Council started 2014 much the way they finished 2013, receiving complaints from neighbours of the Pinnacle Pellet Plant on the west side of the city.

Councillor Anna Ashley outlined the nature of some of the concerns, which involve the noise of the pellet plant when in operation loading vessels that call on the Port of Prince Rupert.

She asked staff to make inquiries of the Port as to what redress the residents and the city may have, in order to reduce the noise and address the concerns of the residents of the area.

The introduction of the concerns of residents once again provided council with the opportunity to discuss the pellet plant operations, with a number of councillors offering up opinion and inquiring as to the status of a number of provisions that were to be in place upon the opening of the plant.

In particular, council was interested in learning more about the noise monitoring system that was to be put in place and the creation of noise barriers around the site of the plant.

Before turning the theme over to the City Manager for further review, the Mayor outlined a few of his thoughts on the topic. Providing his review of the process that the City took on during the initial phases of the planning and construction of the terminal and his interpretation of what process for noise reduction may be in place.

The discussion on the Pellet Plant noise issues can be found on the City's Video Archive from the 19:15 mark to 22 minutes.
