Saints focus on their AAAA Provincial Tournament journey

They are already the buzz of the Provincial Tournament, and now the Queen Charlotte Saints will be looking to do some of the talking on the basketball court.

Their story having gained attention far beyond the northwest, as many make note of the path of success for the Haida Gwaii island school which has logged an amazing amount of travel this year in preparation for their year end showcase event.

From road trips across the Northwest, to their journeys to Vancouver through the year and for many of the players on the team, the success at the All Native tournament in Prince Rupert, this has been a remarkable year for basketball on the islands.

And if they stick to a carefully designed game plan, and yes, if all the stars align up just right, the next four days could deliver yet one more chapter, the final notes to a captivating year long story.

They Queen Charlotte School first appeared on the radar of the Vancouver media with their appearances a the Vancouver tournaments they attended this year, games which served a bit of notice to the larger schools and high tempo programs that the Saints had come to play.

They are a team that has competed hard through their many road trips, picking up a number of impressive wins along the way. Gaining notice as they showed a work ethic that they brought to the court for every match.

Some of those games of course, didn't quite work out the way they might have planned. But did provide opportunity to review their mistakes, learn from them and rededicate themselves to their goal for March.

All of that is now the preamble to this week, some past history as the small school from the distant Islands head for the main stage.  A place where the Saints will be looking to elbow their way into the press clippings of the top flight of High School basketball in BC.

The Saints put the wrap on this amazing run starting with a Wednesday morning  match up against the host city school Walnut Grove, the tip off comes at 8:30 AM.
