Earl Mah Aquatic Centre to remain closed until mid October

The planned maintenance session for the city's Earl Mah Aquatic Centre will now be extended into mid October, as the City awaits delivery of a custom-built part that is key to the Aquatic centre's air quality delivery system.

The City's new Recreation Director, Willa Thorpe addressed the requirements of the extended closure with a half glass full approach, outlining the nature of the repairs still to be completed and how the City will now make good use of the extended repair time, so as to tackle other related projects at the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre.

“We are currently waiting for a replacement exhaust fan, a key component of the air quality in the Centre, without which we would be in violation of health regulations,” ... “Although it’s frustrating that we are unable to open when anticipated after shutdown, the longer wait affords our staff time to complete additional projects that weren’t scheduled to be finished this summer. Our staff is keen to re-open the Centre as soon as it is safe to do so.” -- Willa Thorpe, Director of Recreation and Community Services.

The delay in the opening of the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre means that the fall slate of programs and special events will launch on October 14th.

The Centre was originally scheduled to open on September 21st.

The Recreation Centre delivered news of the unfortunate delay through a press release issued on September 19th.
