City Council Preview, Monday, November 3, 2014

And then there was but one more session for the old gang.

Tonight marks the final gathering for the current roster of Prince Rupert Council,  as the Mayor and Councillors work on their final Agenda for this session of Municipal governance.

With all of the incumbents, with the exception of Councillor Judy Carlick-Pearson seeking re-election on November 15th, there is the chance that some around the chamber tonight won't be coming back to Third Avenue on civic business.

The voters of course, will make that decision on election day and depending on the results, we could see some new faces arrive on the municipal scene when the new Council take their seats later this month.

As for this evenings final session, Council may be one person short for the proceedings, as Councillor Carlick-Pearson is shifting her focus towards School District matters and tonight features the public forum for the School District election, something we imagine that the Councillor is inclined to attend.

For those that do settle in for the evening however, a fairly full night of work awaits, with the listings on the Regular Council Agenda, featuring a string of reports to be reviewed on the night, the overview of which can be found here.

A guide to the night's content can be found below, the corresponding page number from the Agenda listed in red.

The session starts off with the regular adoption of agendas and minutes.

Petitions and Delegations come up next.

Any Unfinished Business is then up next on the Agenda.

Followed by Reports and Recommendations, which features reviews on the following:

Report from the Engineering Coordinator -- Landfill Development Phase 2 - contract awarded to Coast Industrial Construction (see Page 6 of the Agenda)

The Corporate Administrator will provide a Report recommending the rescheduling of the November 17th Council session to November 24th (see page 11 of the Agenda)

The Corporate Administrator will also review the 2015 Council Meeting Schedule (see page 12 of the Agenda)

Report from the Engineering Coordinator on the Digby Island Refit Contract -- The Digby Island Ferry will be heading north for a refit at Ketchikan's Alaska Ship and Drydock (see page 15 of the Agenda)

Requests, Correspondences for Action and any resolutions from previous Closed Meetings of Council.

Under Bylaws, Council will receive and review a Report from the City Planner regarding  Amendments to the Quality of Life Official Community Plan Bylaw -- for the Approved Prince Rupert Border Extension (see page 16 of the Agenda)

Report from the City Planner regarding Amendments to the Quality of Life Official Community Plan to Accommodate Ancillary uses to Construction Phases of Major Projects (Wantage Road area) (see page 37 of the Agenda)

The evening then wraps up with and Additional Items from Council members, Reports, Questions and inquiries from Members of Council, as well as the Mayor's Report.

With adjournment for the night following Mayor Mussallem's presentation.

The meeting is the final one for this session of Council, should the recommendation to shift the next Council session be adopted, the newly elected Council of November 15th will meet on November 24th.
