Rainmakers hold fast at Number five in Provincial rankings, as Northwest Zones loom on the horizon

The Charles Hays Rainmakers will hold down the number five spot for one more week in the British Columbia Boy's High School Basketball Rankings.

With Charles Hays remaining in the familiar spot through the latest numbers released yesterday from the Vancouver Province newspaper.

It marks the third consecutive week that the Rainmakers have held that fifth place ranking in the AAA Rankings, keeping pace with some of the power house squads of Southern British Columbia.

With only a few more weeks to go for evaluation, the Rainmakers continue to nip at the heels of such schools as St. Thomas More, Abbotsford, R. A. McMath and Sir Charles Tupper.

All them squads that may sound familiar to Prince Rupert basketball fans, frequently heard from last year's run at the AAA Tournament in Langley.

With the goal of a return trip to  Langley for he Provincials on their mind, Charles Hays is making their final adjustments for the Northwest Zones Tournament, which take place in Prince Rupert from February 27 to 29.

Part of the run up to the Zones included a two game series with Nechako Valley from Vanderhoof scheduled for this weekend, however word late today is that the Saturday series has been cancelled.

The cancellation perhaps will leave the Rainmakers free for the weekend to take in some of the final days of the All Native Basketball Tournament at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

The Senior Girls, like the Senior Boys have the weekend off.

There will however still be some basketball at the CHSS Gym, as the Charles Hays Jr Girls seek their own Zones banner this weekend.

The first game for the Jr Girls is Saturday at Noon.

The Junior Boys are also in action this weekend, they are off to Terrace for some high tempo competition against some fierce regional rivals.

Playing in front of what are always fairly passionate Terrace fans,  the Junior Rainmakers will be looking to make their mark by Saturday night and claim their own Zones banner for Charles Hays.
