UNBC Faculty Association takes to the picket lines

While negotiations continued last evening and are scheduled to resume again today, Thursday brings picket lines to the main UNBC campus in Prince George, as well as an anticipated picket line for the satellite campus in Terrace.

UNBC outlined details to students on Wednesday evening, see notice here.

The UNBC Faculty Association had issues its 72 hour strike notice on Monday morning.

Since that time progress has been made on outstanding issues, with more than 70 percent of the items up for discussion finding some form of accommodation since negotiations began earlier this year, still the final 30 percent seem to be making for a sticking point, with the Faculty Association apparently looking to reinforce their position with a withdrawal of services.

A large number of high school graduates from School District 52 have moved on to post secondary studies at UNBC, particularly as the University has expanded its program offerings and offered financial incentives for Northern residents to choose UNBC.

The UNBC Faculty Association posted this notice to their website on Wednesday evening.

You can learn more about the dispute and how it is impacting UNBC operations here.

Background on the negotiations of earlier this year leading up to today's labour action, and other notes from UNBC can be reviewed here.
