14th Annual Skeena River Relay heads down the highway today

Travellers along Highway 16 towards Terrace this morning are on notice, there will be a need to slow down at times as you travel along the road as the 14th annual edition of the Skeena River Relay takes to the highway.

One of the premiere running events of the Northwest, the Relay this year features 30 teams of up to ten members taking part, with the first batch of runners taking to the road as early as 7 AM, the relay is expected to be complete by 5 PM.

The race started at the Lester Centre and will travel 142 kilometres wrapping up at Canadian Tire in Terrace. Seventeen Sponsors have contributed to this years event, the list of those lending a hand can be viewed here.

Today's event is the final one before a break for the Rupert Runners local schedule for the summer, the next event on their calendar is the Cannery Road Race for September 12th.

However as we outlined on the blog yesterday, that event could be in danger of cancellation unless the club can find a few members of the community willing to take on some organizational duties for the popular September event.
