North Pacific Cannery Historical Site to observe World Oceans day with special guest

The North Pacific Cannery
Historical Site will celebrate
World Oceans Day Sunday
With this Sunday marking World Oceans Day, one of the North Coast's most popular tourist destinations is marking the day with what should be a fascinating information session at the Port Edward location.

Popular local Chef Dai Fukasaku of the Fukasaku restaurant on Second Avenue in Prince Rupert, will be at the North Pacific site on Sunday, along with the Ocean Wise program of the Vancouver Aquarium.

They have information sessions planned to help educate and empower consumers about the issues surrounding sustainable seafood.

For the Prince Rupert chef, the connection between Fukasaku and North Pacific comes as part of his Japanese origins and the awareness of the importance that Japanese workers had to the fishing industry which North Pacific records and celebrates.

Sunday's event allows him to give back to the historical site, while celebrating the ocean and the importance of a sustainable seafood industry for the region.

As part of Chef Fukasaku's time at the Mess House he will be serving up some of his acclaimed
Rupert Chowder and sushi Rolls
