Regional District on the hunt for a CAO

The City of Prince Rupert isn't the only one looking to add on to the staffing levels of local government these days, The Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District has just put out the Help Wanted sign.

The Regional District posted the Chief Administrative Officer position to the Civic Info British Columbia website on Monday, looking for candidates who will be able to provide leadership and direction to the Board and approximately 20 staff, manage an annual operating budget of $4 million, foster and maintain relationships with local and regional partners, and ensure residents and visitors are delivered high quality services in a responsive and cost effective manner.

The career opportunity will be based in Prince Rupert and applicants should have the following qualifications as part of their submission.

Relevant post-secondary education, preferably in local government administration 

Membership or eligibility for membership in a relevant professional association, such as certification in local government administration, finance, or planning

A minimum of three years at a senior level in local government; preferably in a Regional District setting 

Excellent communication skills; A track record of success with managing in a unionized environment 

And the ability to be comfortable working with community groups and regional partners.

The position offers a competitive salary and benefit package with the deadline for applications arriving on June 30th.

SQCRD is conducting a search for a new Chief Administrative Officer

Among the many duties of the successful applicant will be the need to help the Regional District steer through their Strategic priorities plan for the next three years.

Some of the key aspects of that blue print from April that the SQCRD is working towards include:

Financial issues

Adding a number of key full time staffing positions such as planner and Treasurer
Diversify the revenues of the district
Purchase a location that is cost effective for the Regional District
Implement a revenue sharing agreement
Retain our health specialists and surgeons currently operating in Prince Rupert

Engagement issues

Seek ways to develop relations between the Regional District and area First Nations
Become involved in the planning and development of the Prince Rupert Port Authority expansion plans
Become involved in the planning and development of LNG projects

Transportation issues

Return the BC Ferries schedule to 2012 service levels and increased the fall, winter and spring schedules as well as seek decreases in ferry rates to the levels found in 2010
Reduce the time by half for travellers arriving or departing from the airport to Prince Rupert
