Prior to the start of tonight's Regular Council Session, Council members will be hosting a Public Hearing related to a re-zoning amendment that would, if approve begin the process to allow for an impoundment yard to be located in a section of the city's light industrial area known as the Yellowhead centre.

The hearing provides residents of the City to provide their comments or concerns for the Council following a short overview of what the proposed change in zoning may mean.

Council hosts a Public Hearing on a proposed zoning
change for the Yellowhead centre area

The main focus for the planned change in zoning is address a growing shortage of industrial land in the community, the proposed change for the Yellowhead area required mail out notifications to the immediate area to be affected. as well as two newspaper notifications purchased for last week.

The Public Hearing starts at 7 PM this evening, details and background on the process can be found from this Agenda package for the hearing.

Tonight's session invites comment from the Public regarding the proposed change in the zoning from M1 for the lot in question on Saskatoon Avenue.  Though if the early indications are a guide, there probably won't be much in the way of concern delivered to council, as of Friday, the city had not received any written submissions, nor any inquiries at the planning department regarding the proposed amendment change.

Following the conclusion of tonight's Public Hearing, Council will consider the issue further as part of the evening's Regular Council session.  Should Council decide to move forward with the zoning amendment, the contemplated impoundment yard will be required to apply for a Development Permit prior to securing a Building Permit.
