BC Hydro outage to affect wide area of Prince Rupert tonight

BC Hydro has advised the City of Prince Rupert that an emergency power outage will be required this evening for a wide area of the city's east side with some disruption also set for a corner of the west side.

The outage is to take place between 8 PM and 8:15 is required to safely remove some damaged equipment in BC Hydro's Oldfield Substation.

Beyond tonight's emergency outage, BC Hydro is planning further work on the substation at some point in the future, but is advising that a bit more notice will be provided when a secondary outage is required.

Mayor Lee Brain's Facebook page provided the only civic mention of the outage which includes a Map of the anticipated outage area.

A short notice was also posted to the BC Hydro Facebook page.

To this point No Notice of the pending outage however is available on the BC Hydro website or from the City of Prince Rupert's official website.

Update: Also affected by this evening's emergency outage will be the District of Port Edward, as well as the communities of Lax Kw'alaams and Metlakatla
