Rainmaker Boys claim Northwest Zones; now chart course for Langley and BC Finals in December

The Charles Hays Senior Boys Rainmakers Volleyball team are bringing a little extra laundry home from their road trip, as the team claimed the NorthWest Zones championship over the weekend, making for one more banner to hang from the CHSS Gymnasium roof.

On Saturday, the Senior Boys faced two tough competitors from the east with match ups with Smithers and Caledonia to work their way into the Championship final.

The day started with two strong performances against the the Smithers squad with the Rainmakers taking both sets 25 -14, 25 -16

Up next was a showdown with perennial rival Caledonia and once again the Rainmakers found success, taking the play to the Kermodes and securing twin victories of 25-18, 25-18, results which knocked the Terrace school out of the zones competition and set up the early evening showdown with the host Smithers squad.

The best of five set final was swept by the Rainmakers who topped Smithers by scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 25 -12

The victories of Saturday now send the Senior Boys off to Langley for the Provincials set for December 3 to 5 at the Langley Events Centre.

The Senior Girls were also in action this weekend, putting in a strong effort in Terrace. The Rainmakers however ran into a tough Caledonia squad in Saturday's Zones.

Starting off slow, the Girls began to push back in the middle sets of the best of five competition, however in the end the strong Kermode squad would prevail, with Caledonia claiming three of the four sets to go on to victory.

Scores from the Senior Girls Zones were as follows:  Caledonia 25-CHSS 12, Caledonia 25-CHSS 14, CHSS 25-Caledonia 22, Caledonia 25-CHSS 18.
