CBC Prince Rupert hosts Open House Friday in support of Food Bank

Carolina de Ryk one half of the morning team on the Daybreak North program will be hosting the Prince Rupert end of the Daybreak North CBC Open House Friday programming, setting up shop at Javadotcup with a chance for local listeners to drop in and see how that radio thing is made.

As well as the morning host (who flies solo this time around with George Baker off on travels) a number of guests are lined up for the Friday broadcast out of Prince Rupert.

The local celebration will feature musical guests the Rolling Tones and Bill Smith, while North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice and Mayor Lee Brain will join Ms. de Ryk at the local coffee shop for the broadcast.

And rumours persist that a certain Bearded Gentleman in a Red Suit will be making a special appearance as part of the Friday event.

The Prince Rupert portion of the Open House and Food Bank Day runs from 7 to 9 AM at the 3rd Avenue Coffee shop located across from the Capital Mall.

Those with plans to drop by are asked to bring something along for donation to the Prince Rupert Food Bank, or if you wish you can provide a cash donation to support the local program.

The annual Open House has proven to be a popular event as the faithful listeners of the local CBC station join in to help boost the supplies for the Salvation Army run program which faces some of its greatest challenges during the Christmas and New Year holiday season.

You can find more about the CBC's Open Houses across BC here.

And should you have some extra cans of food available after you drop off your stash at the Open House, you may wish to take advantage of the annual Food for Fines project at the Prince Rupert Library.

Once again this year the Library is accepted non-perishable, unexpired, undamaged, boxed or canned food items to be used against any overdue fines.

With 2 dollars deducted from those overdue fines per donation.

The program started on Tuesday and continues on through until December 31st.

Replenish your donation supplies by December 13th, that way you can join in on the Skate with the Rampage event, where for a canned goods donation you can skate with the team from 3 to 4:30, meet the players, collect some autographs, share some beverages and maybe even have a photo taken with Santa.
