Senior Boys Rainmakers slide out of Province's top ten after weekend struggles

It was a good run for the Charles Hays Rainmakers, but for the first time in 2016 they won't be found in the weekly listings for the Top Ten teams in British Columbia High School Basketball.

The AAA rankings were released yesterday, and the Rainmakers who had held the number seven position heading into last weekend, find themselves on the outside looking in as far as the January 20th listings go.

With a full weekend of tournament action at a number events in the Lower Mainland from last Thursday to Saturday, the Triple A listings found some new names to be reckoned with as key performances caught the attention of the BC Boys High School Basketball Association.

As we noted over the weekend with our updates from the Pitt Meadows Air Show, the Rainmakers, who were without the offensive push from Justin McChesney struggled in the weekend play, with losses to Charles Tupper, Brentwood College and Belmont.

The Rainmakers made for some tough competition against the Tupper squad in the tournament opener.

However as the weekend moved on, the opposing teams picked up their games significantly, holding the Rainmakers offence in check and taking advantage of their own scoring opportunities to claim victories on Friday and Saturday.

There is one honourable mention for the Northwest on the week with the Caledonia Kermodes, previously at number ten last week, still receiving enough votes to get a mention in Wednesday's listings.

The full rankings for January 20th can be found here.

The Rainmakers return to the practice  court this week to work on their game in preparation for a good stretch of basketball ahead into February, looking to reclaim some of their bragging rights and  an opportunity to re-enter the conversation when it comes to the provincial rankings.

More on the Rainmakers can be found from the CHSS Sports twitter feed.

We also have a number of items for review available on our archive page here.
