Prince Rupert Fire Rescue to investigate cause of Sunday night fire on city's east side

Crews from Prince Rupert Fire Rescue were called out to the 1500 block of 11th Avenue over the dinner hour on Sunday evening, tackling a fire in a carport of a residence on the city's east side around 5 PM.

Social media offered up a few fairly dramatic views of the fire which took hold of the carport, a blaze which Fire officials say found much of its fuel from plastics.

Firefighters made quick work of the blaze, knocking it down before it could spread to other homes, though some damage was found on an adjoining property to the fire.

Fire crews remained on the scene for close to three hours to take care of any potential flare ups and to secure the scene for further investigation.

The Fire Department is to return to the residence during the daylight hours today to see if they can determine the nature of the fire.
