Saving Sea Lions the topic for the next public session of North Coast Speaker's Series

The dangers that the Pacific coast sea lion population faces will be the topic of the next session for the Prince Rupert  Vancouver Aquariums Marine Speakers Series, with the local office welcoming Marine mammal ecologist Wendy Szaniszlo to Prince Rupert.

Ms. Szaniszlo will be hosting a Wednesday evening presentation designed to share information on the growing challenges the mammals face in British Columbia waters.

Wednesday's Guest Speaker has worked with Parks Canada for over fourteen years and has also provided Research Associate work with the Vancouver Aquarium.

Her theme on Wednesday will be to provide her findings in the study of sea lion entanglement in fishing gear and marine debris as well as to share some of her research into the seasonal diet of sea lions in British Columbia.

The session gets underway at 7:30 Wednesday night at Northwest Community College, there's no admission charge and the session is open to all members of the public with an interest in marine life on the North coast.

The Speakers Series is part of an ongoing engagement program from the Vancouver Aquarium and is assisted by support from BG Canada.

More on the work of the Vancouver Aquarium can be found from their website or facebook page.

You can find updates on what's happening through the Prince Rupert office from North Coast Initiative coordinator Caitlin Birdsall's twitter feed.
