Blog Watching, week ending August 7, 2016

LNG items once again rose to the top of the must read items of the week, as both the proposed LNG terminal at Lelu Island and one under consideration for Tuck Inlet both made for items of interest on the week.

The week began with more speculation on what plans the Malaysian energy company Petronas might have in mind for the Lelu Island project, as a number of reports indicated that there may be a pause before any forward momentum takes place. By the end of the week, the LNG terminal proponent had outlined that it plans to review its plans once the CEAA Report has been delivered later in the fall.

The Tuck Inlet proposal also made some news in the last week, with Exxon-Mobil/Imperial Oil seeking and receiving approval from the National Energy Board for an extension of their export permit for another fifteen years.

Two items of note out of City Hall made the list of five for the week, with the City once again looking to hire, with a Community Planner position the latest to be listed on the Jobs board. Some work on the city's infrastructure also was newsworthy on the week, as city work crews began to work on the water main system along the city's Third Avenue business district this week.

The arrival of Udderfest also caught some attention on the week, as readers clicked onto our preview of the popular summer theatre event for the city.

The top story of the week however followed the latest developments from the Petronas LNG files.

Petronas said to be pondering Pacific NorthWest LNG delay  -- The week started with more speculation on what plans the Malaysian energy company Petronas may have for any final investment decisions related to their proposed LNG plant at Lelu Island. By the end of the week, some of that speculation had been addressed as the company outlined its plans for when the federal CEAA report has been delivered.   (posted August 3, 2016)
