Routine traffic stop brings multiple drug charges for Prince Rupert resident

A routine traffic stop on the city's east side on August 5th has resulted in a Prince Rupert resident facing a number of drug related charges.

During the late evening of August 5th a member of the Prince Rupert RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling on 11th Avenue East in the city on traffic matter.

Upon further investigation during the traffic stop the driver, a 26 year old male, was arrested for possession of one count of possession of a controlled substance and two counts for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Seized during the course of the arrest were 8 grams of marihuana, 6.1 grams of powder cocaine and 10.9 grams of crack cocaine.

In addition to the possession and possession for purpose of trafficking charges, a fourth charge of obstruction of a peace officer was also entered in relation to the incident.

The male has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
