Northwest Aboriginal businesses among those named as BC award winners

Four Northwest businesses have been recognized for their success as part of the British Columbia Aboriginal Awards for 2016, and the Northwest has claimed three of the fifteen spots in this years listings.

Rupert Lawn and Garden will be recognized in the Community Owned Business of the year category claiming their honours for Outstanding Business Achievement. The locally owned and operated greenhouse and garden centre is located in the Seal Cove area of the city. It is operated by the Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Economic Development Corporation.


Terrace based radio network CFNR also was recognized for their work across the province, the radio station will receive the Aboriginal Business Partnership of the year Award.

Houston's Getumdone Contracting will be recognized in the Business of the year 10 or more person enterprise category.

The final Northwest award winner is based out of the Hazeltons, with the Gitxsan Safety Services Group also making plans for the trip to Vancouver in November, they also have been awarded the Community Owned Business of the Year Award for their outstanding business achievement.

The Awards ceremony takes place October 19th at Vancouver's Fairmont Hotel, with John Rustad,  the Aboriginal Relations and Recognition Minister handing out the awards at the gala event.

The awards were introduced in 2008 and celebrate business excellence in British Columbia.
