Prince Rupert Port Authority launches maintenance facility project

A parcel of land at Scott Road and
Highway 16 is set to be developed by
the Port of Prince Rupert for Maintenance
and Warehouse facilities
The success of the Port of Prince Rupert's container facility at Fairview Terminal will mean some new construction onsite on the city's west side.

Earlier this week the Prince Rupert Port Authority provided some background on a sixteen million dollar project that will see the Port invest in a new maintenance and warehouse complex that will be constructed at the intersection of Highway 16 and Scott Road.

The expansion of the Fairview Container terminal created the need for the new structure, as the Terminal operators DP World had acquired the existing facilities as part of the expansion to the east of the Fairview footprint.

There will be two buildings constructed as part of the new project, the first to host the Port's maintenance facility, with the second providing for additional warehouse space for the Fairview site.

Once blasting starts in October
traffic flows will be interrupted
once a day for fifteen minutes at
Scott Road and Highway 16
The contractor for the project which is expected to get underway next week will be Coast Tsimshian Northern Contractors Alliance in partnership with IDL Projects.

The project is scheduled for completion in September of 2017.

During the land clearing phase and other construction related activities blasting and removal will provide for temporary interruptions to traffic flow along the Highway towards the Alaska and BC Ferry Terminals and other waterfront access.

The plan will call for a month long period of fifteen minute closures  per day for the road once the blasting schedule has been finalized in October, further details on that schedule will be made available through the Port Authority website and social media channels.

Further background on the development can be found from this information sheet from the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
