Results from balloting held across the Northwest were released late Friday afternoon and the North Coast will once again be turning to Cliff Morgan and Juanita Parnell for representation within the Nisga'a Lisims Government.
The Prince Rupert/Port Edward region returned the two incumbents to office, with residents casting 642 votes for the local component of the larger Nisga'a electoral process.
The three way contest for votes and the two seats available for the Urban Local Representative for the Nisga'a vote in Prince Rupert and Port Edward provided for the following vote totals.
Clifford Morgan --- 229 votes
Juanita Parnell --- 201 votes
Farley Stewart --- 102 votes
And while the North Coast stayed the course with its incumbents, that wasn't the case for the larger vote for the Nisga'a Lisims leadership.
Election Day saw Eva Clayton claim the Nisga'a Presidency, becoming the fourth person to hold the top position with the Nisga'a Lisims Government and the first woman to become leader.
Ms. Clayton received 836 votes to top incumbent Mitchell Stevens who received the support of 640 voters on Wednesday, the contest was a rematch from 2012, when Mr. Mitchell gained the winning margin.
A number of controversial issues and government decisions for the Nisga'a made for the lead up to the election campaign, add in the large number of candidates on the ballot for this year as factors which appear to have provided for some the attrition for Mr. Mitchell's vote count from 2012.
The results for the remaining three candidates for the top position were as follows: Calvin Morven 177 votes, Zrake Stephens 156 votes, Eric Grandison 72 votes.
