Special Weather Statement issued for Haida Gwaii and North Coast - Coastal Sections

A strong weather system off the Pacific has arrived on the North Coast,
bringing wind and heavy rain through Sunday into Monday

The first wave of the post Labour Day weather systems is arriving on Haida Gwaii and the North Coast, with Environment Canada issuing a Special Weather Statement  calling for strong winds and heavy rain.

The maritime front from the Pacific will be skirting the upper reaches of the North Coast but still bring wind and rain to the area.

However,  the full brunt of the weather system will take the bulk of the strongest winds and heaviest rains into the Kitimat area and points south, with a Rainfall Warning  issued for Kitimat, calling for precipitation amounts are anticipated to be near 100 mm by Monday afternoon.

For the Prince Rupert area, 30 mm is expected as the afternoon continues with another 20 mm anticipated into the overnight period.

Winds will come from the south to south east at 80 km/h, diminishing to 50 km/h overnight

The system is expected to tail off to showers by the late morning of Monday.

You can get updates on the system as it progresses across beyond Prince Rupert into the Northwest from the Environment Canada website.
