Second wave of provincial funding this week directs money to Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii

Prince Rupert won't come out of this weeks shower of money from Victoria empty handed after all, with a second round of funding announcements sending some money the way of city council.

As we noted on the blog earlier this morning, a first wave of provincial funding for rural communities had skipped over much of the Northwest, with only Port Edward finding success in yesterday's funding parade.

However, in a Friday morning announcement Doug Donaldson, the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development outlined a larger distribution of funding, directing some 10.1 million in new grants to 90 rural communities across the province.

As part of the review of the funding delivery program, Minister Donaldson noted the support that such money provides for rural communities.

“These new grants will provide much-needed support to rural communities, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations. Going forward, we want to make sure that rural citizens have a voice and will play an integral role in any rural development .”

Among the communities of the Northwest, Central Coast and Haida Gwaii that will receive funding the distribution list look like this.

So far there has been no indication from the City of Prince Rupert through its range of information options, as to what the $100,000 in provincial  funding will be directed towards.
