Prince Rupert Minor Hockey to celebrate year with Awards Ceremony April 22

April 22nd is Awards Day in Prince Rupert Minor Hockey, with
the PRMHA celebrating the hockey season and distributing their awards for the year

Like the slightly bigger NHL Awards of June, the end of the Minor Hockey season on the North Coast will also see a Gala Celebration of Success, with the Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association set to host their Year End event this Sunday afternoon.

The celebration of hockey takes place at the Lester Centre on Sunday at 1PM and as part of the event, the teams will be grouped together with heir coaches, with their seating arrangements marked by signs.

Parents are invited to attend and watch the afternoon event, but are asked to make use of the upper section of the Lester Centre as they take in the official wrap up to the year.

The next item to wrap up the 2017-18 season will come later in May with the PRMHA Annual General Meeting, that event takes place on May 16th in the Rave Room of the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

As part of that meeting, the PRMHA will be accepting nominations for
Lifetime Memberships, with the deadline for nominees set for May 14th.

You can learn more about that process here.

For additional information about events from the PRMHA see their website and Facebook page.

The off season could be a busy one for those chasing pucks.

The Merritt Centennials are hosting their Northern Exposure Camp in Kitimat from May 11 to 13, Merritt is one of a number of teams in the BCHL and KIJHL that regularly keep an eye on the Northwest to add to their rosters.

While August will bring a Future Stars Girls Hockey Camp in Smithers on August 21 and 22.

Looking ahead to when the ice comes back to the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre, Northwest hockey players will have a new league to take part in when September comes around, with BC Hockey introducing a Minor Midget League for the Northwest.

The league will be set up for mainly fifteen year old players who may not be ready just yet for the Major Midget league, but have the skill set for a more competitive level of hockey.

The eleven teams making up the Northwest Zone will include, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Smithers, Kitimat, Stewart, Hazelton, Houston Burns Lake, Fort St. James, Fraser Lake and Vanderhoof .

Minor Midget will feature a thirty game season, with eight playoff spots up for grabs.
