Blog watching: Week ending March 19, 2017


An entry from our ever expanding files on LNG claims the top spot once again for the week, with a fair bit of interest directed towards our item on the City of Prince Rupert's contribution to Aurora LNG assessment process.

Provincial politics also found an audience this week, with a large number of readers exploring our look at a farewell to the Legislature from the Skeena representative Robin Austin.

Education items featured two items this week, one reviewing what plans Merritt's Nicola Valley Institute may have in mind for northern B.C.,, while the other relayed some concerns on teacher recruitment for rural schools, with a look at how SD52 is looking to the province for help.

And another step for the redevelopment of the Rushbrook Trail was an item that found some space in our list of five on the week, with a contract for the work being put out for tender.

However, the top story of the week is from our LNG notes and a look at the City of Prince Rupert's contribution to the comment process for Aurora LNG.

City of Prince Rupert submission among many included in comment process for Aurora LNG   -- With one LNG project, the Prince Rupert LNG project first launched by BG Gas now in the abandoned column, and the community awaiting word on the Pacific NorthWest project, attention is turning to the proposed LNG terminal development for Digby Island. The comment period recently closed for Aurora LNG, the Chinese led group looking to develop a terminal at Digby, and as part of the comment period was a four page presentation from the City of Prince Rupert. With the City outlining some of its thoughts and concerns related to the proposed development. (posted March 15, 2017)

As current session nears an end, a departing Robin Austin reflects on time in Legislature -- With the Legislature now in adjournment and an election campaign on the way, some MLA's will be pursuing other paths, Skeena's Robin Austin is one of those set to retire from the Legislature and this week he provided for his farewells.   (posted March 16, 2017)

Rushbrook Trail plans go to tender -- With the Prince Rupert Rotary Club also joining in on the project, the Kaien Island Trail Enhancement and Recreation Society is moving forward with the much anticipated remediation of the Rushbrook Trail, putting the project out for tender  . Nicola Valley Institute considers Northern Expansion  -- Expanding education options for the North is on the mind of a southern based Institute of Technology, with Merritt's Nicola Valley Institute looking to the future and a possibility of expansion with a campus somewhere in Northern BC. School District notes need for help in filling positions in wake of BCTF agreement -- With thousands of teaching and assistants positions starting to open up following a recent court victory, School District 52 like many in rural BC is calling on the province to offer up some assistance to recruit teachers to the region. (posted March 14, 2017)
