Registration underway for 2017 Minor Baseball Season

The weather of late may not suggest it, but baseball season on the North Coast is just around the corner as the North Coast Minor Baseball Association prepares to enter its second year, after the success of the return of baseball to the region from 2016.

Baseball joined Soccer as one of the spring options for local youth, featuring a schedule that offered up the opportunity to play both sports, a nod to the strong popularity of the PRYSA in the community.

The launch last year was a great success, as the NCMBA took advantage of the opportunity offered by Port Edward to make use of their sports field, a facility that has proven to be the perfect fit for the league.

With field opportunities in the City of Prince Rupert somewhat limited, the league reached out to Port Edward who offered up the warm welcome and providing a venue that makes for a great day at the ball park.

This year the Association is looking to host a ten week season starting in late April, running through until the end of June.

The hope is that as the sport continues to grow in the region, the North Coast Minor Baseball Association will be able to add differing age groups, adding older age divisions as the players progress in their skills.

Registration for the 2017 season is now underway, with three different skill levels planned once again for the spring league.

The three levels include:

Blastball
The NCMBA's introductory program to develop skills
For children Ages four, five and pre-Grade 1

Tee Ball
The follow up to blastball which gives the youngsters a bit more background on the sport
For Chilfren Ages Six and Grades 1+

Baseball
For those that are 8 years old and up, who have had some previous exposure to tee ball or baseball programs
