River Kings take two wins out of Williams Lake to Claim CIHL Title

It will go down as a pretty remarkable weekend for Terrace River King hockey history, as our neighbours to the east, went into Williams Lake down one game to none in a Best of Three final and won both of the back to back games to claim the CIHL title for 2017.

The remarkable story jumped to life on Saturday night, as the River Kings battled from at 4-3 third period deficit to firs tie up the contest and send it off to Overtime. The two teams then battled hard, playing through three period of the extra time before claiming their first victory of the series by a 5-4 final.

The two weary teams were right back at it on the ice Sunday afternoon and Terrace picked up where they left off, scoring the opening goal of the game in the first period, holding off a frantic third period push from the Stampeders in the third which had the game tied until the twelve minute mark when the River Kings found the range on the winning marker taking a 2-1 victory on the day and claiming the CIHL Playoff Finale.

Terrace had gone into the weekend with their backs to the wall having dropped the opening game of the series to Williams Lake by a score of 4-2 last week at the Terrace Ice Arena.

To get to to the final the River Kings had previously eliminated the Prince Rupert Rampage.

With their CIHL title now in hand, the River Kings will take to an even longer Road Trip ahead, as the new CIHL champs will be off to Whitehorse and the AA Senior Men's Championship.
